
Basic information
Valtice (popularly also known as Valčice, Feldsberg in German) is a small wine town in the Břeclav County in the South Moravia region about 9 kilometres west from Břeclav on the borders with Austria. Its cadastral area is 4 785 hectares and approximately 3 500 inhabitants live here.
The historical centre of the town is a protected urban conservation zone. Surrounding Lednice-Valtice Area is a cultural-natural landscape. Valtice Chateau was up to 1945 a residence of the Liechtenstein prince family.
Valtice is located in the Mikulov wine-growing subarea and it belongs among the most frequented wine towns in the Czech Republic. There are many wineries as well as family wine makers. The public wine-tasting exhibition which was awarded the title Wine Salon of the Czech Republic is located in the cellar rooms of the local chateau.
